April 2025 Issue of The Whistler

With April’s arrival, Severe Weather Awareness Week takes place from April 7-11 in Minnesota, emphasizing the importance of preparedness for spring and summer severe weather. An informed community is more resilient, reducing risks associated with hazardous events. A key preparation event is the statewide tornado drills on April 10 at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Each day of the week covers a specific topic:

  • Monday: Alerts and Warnings
  • Tuesday: Severe Weather, Lightning, and Hail
  • Wednesday: Floods
  • Thursday: Tornadoes
  • Friday: Extreme Heat

How you can prepare

  • Create or update emergency plans, ensuring that everyone is aware of their responsibilities in the event of an emergency. Confirm that all contact information is up to date.
  • Practice your emergency plan through tornado drills and assemble an emergency kit.
  • Ask about the emergency procedures at places you regularly visit, such as schools, workplaces, grocery stores, or sports venues. Have conversations about how you would react if you were separated from others during a crisis.
