September 2026 Issue of The Whistler

September is here, bringing cooler mornings, colorful leaves, and plenty of opportunities to Fall Into Fun!

As we settle into the new season, remember that some of the best learning moments don’t require a lesson plan or fancy materials. For young children, a pile of crunchy leaves can be just as exciting and educational as anything we could put on a classroom shelf!

Think about all the learning that can happen on a simple fall walk. Children can count acorns, compare big and little leaves, notice different colors, listen for birds, feel the bumpy bark on a tree, and learn new words as they tell you about everything they discover.

And sometimes, the best thing we can do is simply join in the fun.

🍂 Crunch through the leaves with them.
🐿️ Pretend to scamper like squirrels.
🌬️ See who can catch a leaf blowing in the wind.
🔎 Stop and investigate that very important tiny bug.
💬 Ask, “What do you notice?” and see where the conversation goes.

When we slow down and experience the world alongside children, we’re doing more than playing. We’re building relationships, encouraging curiosity, supporting language, and showing children that their discoveries matter.

🍁 A September Challenge

This month, find one opportunity to say “YES” to a little more fun.

Take the long way back from the playground. Jump in the leaves. Bring something from nature inside to investigate. Follow a child’s curiosity even when it takes you somewhere you hadn’t planned.

Learning doesn’t always have to look like learning. Sometimes it looks like muddy shoes, pockets full of acorns, lots of questions, and a whole lot of laughter.

So grab a sweater, head outside, and Fall Into Fun! 🍂
