October 2024 Issue of The Whistler
October marks Head Start Awareness Month, a time to honor the historical significance, present influence, and enduring legacy of Head Start. Here are several reasons highlighting the importance of Head Start and Early Head Start:
- Head Start delivers high-quality early childhood education, equipping children for kindergarten and future academic achievements.
- The programs emphasize social skills, emotional regulation, and self-confidence, which are essential for lifelong learning and overall well-being.
- Health screenings, nutrition education, and meals are often part of Head Start, promoting well-being and tackling health disparities.
- The initiative prioritizes family involvement, enabling parents to support their children’s education and growth.
Beyond education, Head Start provides mental health support and connects families with community resources to meet their needs.

Mental Health Team News
Mental Health Coordinator, Kristi Monsour, has been chosen as one of five fellows to work at the Office of Head Start this academic year. In her absence, our Behavior Specialist, David Kaczor, will provide support to children, families, and staff at Reach-Up regarding all behavioral and mental health needs. David has a rich background in assisting families and educating young children. He began his journey with Reach-Up seven years ago as a teacher and swiftly transitioned into our Preschool Day Treatment teaching role. His impactful contributions to the lives of children were recognized and led him to spend the last four years serving our community as a skilled Behavior Specialist.
